Won't it look prettier with the TOC right-aligned and the introductory text left-aligned (and thus aligned with the rest of the text)?

It is more logical to have the TOC on the left side...it's a matter of usability. Besides, i also think it's more beautiful that way.

I've got a T60 running Gentoo Linux and I just got a new UltraBay battery. tp_smapi works fine so I can read all information I need. No my system first discharges the battery in the bay to 0% before using the main one. As you know, discharging a LiIon or LiP battery completely reduces it's lifetime. How can I tell my system to switch to the main battery when the UltraBay battery has reached 10% or 5%?
