How about using tp_smapi to get the battery status? Does it work on the R31?

wouldn't that require a SMAPI bios? the R31 is an Acer i830 special. so no SMAPI bios. perhaps I am not well enough informed?

Why not just give it a try? What's the dmesg output when you run tp_smapi's "make load"?
