A note on capacity
The capacity of this battery is 1.5Ah. For comparison, in the ThinkPad T40 series, the 6-cell system battery has a capacity of 4.8Ah and the 9-cell system battery holds 7.2Ah. Thus, the UltraBay battery provides only a small improvement in total charge capacity.
Using the UltraBay Slim battery for hot-swapping the system battery
When the UltraBay Slim battery is inserted and charged, the system battery can be hot-swapped (i.e., replaced without the need to reboot, hibernate or use an external power adapter).
