In my case, on a X60 (1709-CTO) it seems that the latest BIOS update (2.14, dated October 2007 on lenovo.com) has regressed this issue. It was not present before but it definitely showed up now.
Applying the lenovo ethtool-based patch seems to have fixed it, i.e. it has survived a couple of reboots.
