Linux Installation

As of 2010-03-11 the following problems exist with the T510 under Linux:

  • System can only resume from sleep once - acpi related kernel crash occurs on resume (but system continues to operate), next resume shows BIOS screen and hangs
  • No support for display brightness controls when using binary video driver

Workarounds:

  • To change the brightness, one can switch to a virtual terminal and change it there, and the new brightness will remain when resuming X usage. The following line can be added to the "Devices" section of xorg.conf to enable brightness control while using the nVidia binary driver: Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1" This results in a high-pitched noise emanating from the display, which does not occur when the brightness is changed via the virtual terminal.
