When the UltraBay Slim battery is inserted and charged, the system battery can be hot-swapped (i.e., replaced without the need to reboot, hibernate or use an external power adapter). However, the laptop will completely deplete the UltraBay battery before using its system battery, so to make hot-swapping useful you'll need to keep the UltraBay Slim battery ''outside'' the UltraBay during normal battery-powered usage. The complete depletion of the Ultrabay battery also reduces its lifetime.
