It also has the Rescue and Recovery utility. The computer is only about 1 month old.<br /> <br /> I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 creating a dual boot system where about half hard drive is dedicated to Win and the other half to Ubuntu.<br /> <br /> Upon start-up of the computer it gets to GRUB2 menu.<br /> The GRUB2 is specifically &quot;GNU GRUB version 1.97~beta4&quot;. The menu contains:<br /> <br /> 1-Ubuntu Linux 2.6.31-16-generic<br /> <br /> 2-Ubuntu Linux 2.6.31-16-generic (recovery mode)<br /> <br /> 3-Ubuntu Linux 2.6.31-14-generic<br /> <br /> 4-Ubuntu Linux 2.6.31-16-generic (recovery mode)<br /> <br /> 5-Memory test (memtest86+)<br /> <br /> 6-Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200)<br /> <br /> 7-Microsoft Windows XP Professional (on /dev/sda1)<br /> <br /> 8-Windows NT/2000/XP (on /dev/sda3)<br /> <br /> <br /> #8 is the Rescue and Recovery partition.<br /> <br /> As I understand, this now covers not the Ubuntu, but only covers Windows XP.<br /> Is that right?<br /> <br /> Also: When I am running Windows XP, and I try to open Rescue and Recovery program, it will not open at all.<br /> In the beginning after installing Ubuntu, it used to open and crash when I tried to backup, but now it won't open at all.<br /> <br /> So I guess Ubuntu has created a problem to it?<br /> I also have made many (careful) registry changes in XP though I don't think these should be the problem.<br /> <br /> I am a beginner in Thinkpad computers and in Linux, though I do have some knowlege in Windows XP.<br /> <br /> Please help me resolve this issue:<br /> Is the Ubuntu installation the cause for disabling the RnR?<br /> How can I make RnR functional while keeping the Ubuntu partition?<br /> <br /> Thanks very much.</div>
