This is a ATI North Bridge with integrated video adapter, also known as Radeon Xpress 1150.

== Linux driver - OpenSource ==
The VESA driver in Xorg 6.8.2 works. When configured in Fedora Core 4, the hardware discovery did not work, therefore the screen was configured for 800x600 only. 

The "ati" driver in Xorg 7.0 worked fine under Gentoo Linux.

The [[radeon]] module works fine in X.Org 7.2 under openSUSE Linux 10.2.

Direct rendering (i.e., 3D acceleration) does not work, and is disabled explicitly in the driver. Look for this line in Xorg.0.log:

(II) RADEON(0): Direct rendering broken on XPRESS 200 and 200M

But Direct rendering is enabled experimentally in Ubuntu 8.04 using the 'ati' wrapper driver. From the Xorg.0.log:

The following combination of software is almost working for me:
* gentoo-sources-2.6.14-r2
* ati-drivers-8.19.10
* xorg-x11-6.8.2-r6

Xorg hangs up sometimes unless I disable glx and dri modules in xorg.conf .

Linux kernel 2.6.15 and ati drivers 8.20.8 work flawlessly. DRI is enabled and graphics is fast (for this videocard). fglrxconfig puts "GammaCorrection" options in xorg.conf and it sometimes messes up colors so it is better to comment them out. If colors are messed up for some reason anyway run fireglcontrol and click on TvOut tab, it should cure the problem.

I have got ThinkPad R51e 1843, RAM upgraded to 1.5 GB.
Due to soon end of support of Windows XP and slowing down I decided to install Debian.
Fist thing I done was backup of recovery partition by CloneZilla Live.
I installed debian-7.3.0-i386-netinst.iso from CD drive and having Ethernet cable connection, I installed also additional packages
such as: Laptop, X, Wireless. I chosen non free software option. Overall installation is easy.
I set swap size partition to 4096MB, my disk is 40GB.
Later I done some packages removal such as Libre Office and installed LXDE as default GUI.
It works using Firefox - Iceweasel but I noticed some visual bugs in browser (UI and browser engine).
Also video is not as fast as it was under Windows, but youtube works not too bad, but needs to install proper non free plugin.
I think video is slow because GPU is not supported.
Other problems:
Fn+F4 causes black screen, cannot to use.
Fn+F12 also malfunctioning, cannot to use.
Wireless diode not working but wifi works.
VLC - better not install working badly with this configuration.

Rmjocz: debian wheezy netinst

I have got ThinkPad R51e 1843, RAM upgraded to 1.5 GB.
Due to soon end of support of Windows XP and slowing down I decided to install Debian.
Fist thing I done was backup of recovery partition by CloneZilla Live.
I installed debian-7.3.0-i386-netinst.iso from CD drive and having Ethernet cable connection, I installed also additional packages
such as: Laptop, X, Wireless. I chosen non free software option. Overall installation is easy.
I set swap size partition set to 4096MB, my disk is 40GB.
Later I done some packages removal such as Libre Office and installed LXDE as default GUI.
It works using Firefox - Iceweasel but I notced some visial bugs in browser (UI and browser engine).
Also video is not as fast as it was under Windows, but youtube works not too bad, but needs to install proper plugin.
I think video is slow because GPU is not supported.
Other problems:
Fn+F4 causes black screen.
Fn+F12 also malfunctioning.
Wireless diode not working but wifi works.
VLC - better not install working badly with this configuration.
