I am reasonably sure a Floppy drive does not exist for the UltraBay Slim.
People are told to use a USB FDD instead.

Also the UltraBay 2000 battery is not supported in UltraBay Plus.
UltraBay Plus has its own battery that should be used

Anyone know if it's possible to bodge together a 770X Ultrabay II CD-RW from a Ultrabay II DVD and, say, a 600E UltraSlimBay CD-RW? Just something I've been wondering for a while.

Obviously UltraBay is not just an IDE interface.

Most also have a floppy interface (apart from the latest 'slim' and 'enhanced' versions), and can take a battery.

If I remember correctly you could get the floppy drive activated by hibernating the thinkpad and installing the floppy drive, so that on power up the BIOS would enable the floppy disk drive and it would work. This was in the old APM days, so it might work differently with ACPI.

You're right. I remember reading some IBM text about the UltraBay yesterday, which said that the controller is capable of dynamically changing the pin layout to support the different kind of devices (initiated by the BIOS). I'll try finding it again and correcting the information on the page.

On my 770x under ACPI, if you force the floppy driver to use 2 3.5" drives (in modprobe.conf options floppy floppy=1,4,cmos), then you get to use either external floppy / ultrabay floppy / both if you plug them in after boot time. Otherwise the autodetect only finds one. I still haven't got hotplug fully working (mostly as it depends on Linux being able to hotplug IDE devices, not just IDE controllers).

The oldest references I can find to the name 'UltraBay' are the ThinkPad 755 series (755CSE, 755CE, etc).

But the older 750 models already had the hot-swappable drive bay, and support some of the same options, so it looks like the 'UltraBay' started with the 750 series.

But then again, later models support CD-ROM drives (755CD, 760CD, etc), which certainly are not supported in these older models, but they are all called 'UltraBay'.

IrDA can be used to communicate using Infrared to other IrDA compliant devices, such as other Notebooks, PDAs and mobile phones.

All IBM ThinkPads manufactured in the last years have integrated IrDA that can be used in one of two modes, SIR or FIR.
Some very old ThinkPads only support SIR mode, or might not have IrDA support at all.

The purpose of this document is to get the IrDA hardware in your ThinkPad operational, setting up communication to other devices is not covered. However, the external links section can prove useful for this.

Main problem here is that the chips FIR mode needs to be activated. On A, G, R, T and X model ThinkPads, the easiest way to activate FIR mode is by entering BIOS setup during boot-up by pressing {{key|F1}} when prompted.
Then, selecting 'Config' followed by 'Infrared' will allow you to control the IrDA operation. Here you will need to select the option to Enable the infra-red port. Be sure to save the changes, and then Exit.

Note: Changing these BIOS settings do not affect Windows 2000 or XP operating systems, but may cause memory resource issues in older windows versions, or other legacy operating systems.
==== PnP settings from Linux ====
If changing the BIOS setting is not an option or if the settings cannot be altered, as on some older ThinkPads, the FIR mode can be activated by running Linux OS with one of the following:

* setpnp as part of the old pcmcia-utils source package
* tpctl, but only for some old ThinkPads

setpnp requires a kernel with pnp-bios support compiled in, which the {{Redhat}} and {{Fedora}} kernels lack.

2.6 kernel ISA PnP Patches exist for the nsc-ircc driver, that allow the loading of the driver without the BIOS, setpnp or tpctl hacks.<br>

CONFIG_X86_SPEEDSTEP_RELAXED_CAP_CHECK=y doesn't seem to show the error you're experiencing while loading speedstep-smi. So that means loading speedstep-smi module results to no error at all.

I would like to know if ondemand is possible on a t22.
Also I'm wondering why cpu speed is only either 700mhz or 900mhz.

In /proc/acpi/processor/CPU/throttling there are 7 states defined, but changing them seem to does not do anything. Also cpudynd -acpi tells me there is no interface.
I tried also to use acpi-cpufreq but it won't run because 'no such device'. How to use it?

I used modconf where I found these modules listet under
"kernel/drivers/cpufreq" tagged as "not installed".

I am a newby using Debian Sarge on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D, with a
Pentium III (Coppermine). However this information might also apply
to thinkpads.
