Hmm... I just saw an article at the mobilityguru about DIY LCD replacement. The company that makes them seems to be operating with highly sensible prices compared to Lenovo's rates (I'll withhold the name for the time being, as I do not want to spam thinkwiki).

I added a "Flexview" note to the SXGA+ and UXGA Flexview models and put the R52 15" SXGA+ display on a separate line, because it is _not_ a Flexview.

Do you think that including an article on thinkwiki on this subject (i.e. DIY LCD replacement) is a worthy cause?

Hei, thanks for the correction. Are you sure, though, about the brightness and contrast ratios? During my research it seemed to me that Flexviews have 400:1 contrast. So probably the other models should go together with the A31p.

I think we should add a column to the table with the actual manufacturer name and model.

And besides that...do you know the values for the R52? If you don't we shouldn't just assume that it's 200 and 250:1.

Please comment.

It's a nice idea, and I thought about it. This will greatly increase the number of table entries, as often there are different types of panels used with the same basic specs. Also, it will not be easy to find certain manufacturers, and model numbers - even harder. Nonetheless, if you do add manufacturer / model columns, I'll try to fill them in as much as I can.

I splitted the page into sub pages and redesigned the tables to include the two columns as suggested.

I'm sure about the brightness - it's 200 nits for both the Flexview and the non-Flexview on the R52, according to the Tabook. As for the constrast values, the Tabook doesn't tell them, but I looked at the sites of IDTech and LG-Philips, who manufacture the Flexview panels, and indeed it seems that you are right and the contrast is 400:1. I changed it.

Separate rows is not a problem. Empty table cells is more, but i think it's preferable to have a way to provide detailed and precise information where we have it.

P.S. I guess one could find more information about the different screens by retrieving the part numbers for the LCD panels from Lenovo's site, finding the manufacturers and looking at their technical docs, as I did with the Flexview panels. At the moment I don't have time to do it, though.

Just to not loose the thought: we should at some point (maybe when the at the moment still quite fractured information has settled a bit) split this page into several sub pages (like the processors page). The sub pages and their hierachical link structure could/should be:

  • Displays

Also, if anyone would have pointers to reliable information about display type, brightness and contrast ratios, please share them here so we can complete the info.
