I switched from the xorg graphics driver to the official ATI one.  My glxgears speed is much improved and general screen refresh is much better.  All in all I am happy with the switch EXCEPT:

When I first start Thunderbird the screen goes black and stays black. If I <alt+ctrl+F1> then <alt+ctrl+F7> back then the display is OK. Every time.

Also, Lotus Notes running in Crossover Office does this but I don't want to throw in a red herring.

ATI is mute on the subject and I have not found anything in the thinkpad forums.  Any ideas?

IBM Thinkpad T42. ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 (M10) graphics. 1400x1050 Fedora Core 4. xorg-x11-6.8.2 ATI 8.25.18 graphics driver for Linux I switched from the xorg graphics driver to the official ATI one. My glxgears speed is much improved and general screen refresh is much better. All in all I am happy with the switch EXCEPT: When I first start Thunderbird the screen goes black and stays black.
